Here we have a recipe for a dog treat. This recipe includes the use of apples, rolled oats, and peanut butter. And we all know that dogs love peanut butter.

Make sure you use natural ingredients. You also want to check for and avoid ingredients that contains xylitol. Xylitol is an artificial sweetener that’s toxic to dogs, so you want to make sure to keep those off of anything you’re baking for your dog.

Here’s what you’ll need for this scrumptious treat:
1 cup or 8 oz. rolled oats
½ cup or 4 oz. flour
1/4 cup or 2 oz. peanut butter
1 whole egg
2 apples cored and diced

Let’s get baking

Get your oven preheated to 300°F. While your oven is pre-heating, mix all the ingredients. Make sure that they are mixed well. After mixing the dough, roll it out on a flat surface. Roll it out until you get ½ inch thickness.

You can then cut the dough into sized appropriate for your dog. You can use a cookie cutters, or if you don’t have one you just cut the dough into small squares. Then put them on a baking sheet and into the oven.

Bake them for about 15 minutes. If your cut outs are 1 inch in diameter, you will have 36 dog treats from this recipe. Or you can have more if you cut them smaller.

Just a few tips and reminders

Check and make sure the peanut butter you are using does not contain xylitol. Do not use artificial flavoring. If you don’t have apples, you can use other fruits or vegetables. Do not add sugar or salt.

If you are using chunky peanut butter, make sure to add 1 tsp of water and try to roll out the dough. If it’s still too dry and crumbly, add 1 tsp of water again. Only add water until you are able to roll out the dough. You can dice the apples into smaller cubes, especially if you have a small dog.

See! It’s easy to make dog treats and it doesn’t require a lot of ingredients. And your dog will love it, probably because of the peanut butter.  Well, we know it’s the peanut butter.

If you’re planning to give presents to your friends’ pets, this is a great gift idea as well. It’s not expensive and it’s healthy. Just make sure to make a label on the container to remind your friends that those bakes goodies are for their pets.

From apples, you can change this to carrots or potatoes, just make sure to peel them first. And there are a lot of other recipes that you can try for your dog. Just be creative and only use natural ingredients. After all, your goal was to make a healthier version of the store-bought dog treats right?
