The miserable situation of an abandoned pit bull in Connecticut increased people’s awareness about dogs all over the world. The poor dog was found tied to a tree with a note from her owners. The note listed her name and age; however, she had no tags and microchip.

Her name was Annabelle, and she was three years old when she was rescued. Her owners abandoned her because they couldn’t provide for her needs anymore. Norwalk Animal Shelter in Connecticut shared Annabell’s story on social media sites, and it became viral. The post received lots of shares and comments from people who were interested in adopting her.

When she was transferred to the Pet Animal Welfare Society, staff members discovered that she was a shy dog. She gradually showed off her warm personality after she stayed in the shelter for several days. She also enjoyed outdoor activities, long walks, and playtimes. After Annabelle’s surgery, she was finally adopted by a lovely couple. Fortunately, they had a great bond right after they met each other. Her new owners were very eager to know her background, so they could provide for anything she needs.

Apparently, some people condemn Anabelle’s first owners for abandoning her due to financial problems. The shelter didn’t want to blame Annabelle’s first owners since it was inappropriate to judge anyone. Taking care of the dog was rewarding, but it was a big responsibility too. There were lots of important things to consider in raising dogs like food, supplies, veterinary care, and proper housing.

Kelly Giffear and Brittany Scott, veterinary students at the University Of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine, estimated the average costs of raising dogs per year. The average cost for raising small dogs was $2674; however, the average cost for raising large dogs was $3239. The costs included supplies, food, and medical care expenses.

If some people planned to raise the dog, they should consider all possible expenses. To raise them properly, owners should be able to provide for their needs. Financial problems are the main reason for dogs abandonments; therefore, dog owners should assess their capabilities to raise dogs.

Fortunately, Annabelle was transferred to a new home with a loving family who was able to provide for her needs. She was lucky to have wonderful owners who would give the most comfortable life that she deserved. Her story reminds us to be responsible dog owners so our dogs will become healthy and happy to be able to give us joy too.
